Jonathan’s Journal is designed to prepare children, ages 8-11, for middle school by strengthening the skills needed to support healthy social and emotional well-being. Based on a Real Counselor's Approach

Developed by James E. Robinson, author and mental health counselor, "Let's Write About It" is a journaling technique for youth. This 3-step journaling process is designed to promote healthy social and emotional development.

Step 1: Let's Write About It

Take a few minutes to think about your day and write down whatever you're feeling or thinking. It doesn't have to be perfect—don’t worry about spelling or grammar. Just be honest with yourself and let your thoughts flow. This is your time to check in with you.

Step 2: Share and Connect

After you finish writing, try talking about your feelings with someone you trust—like a parent, teacher, or school counselor. Sharing what’s on your mind can really help you feel understood, supported, and even a little lighter inside.

Step 3: Reflect and Grow

Take a moment to think about what you wrote and shared. Notice what happened during your day and how it made you feel. Every feeling—even the tough ones—can help you understand yourself better. Try asking yourself: ‘Why do I think I felt that way?’ or ‘What do I need right now to feel better?’ Your feelings matter, and reflecting on them can help you grow stronger inside.
